Insulated Concrete Forms
Insulated concrete forms (ICFs) are pieces of plastic foam (“Styrofoam”—expanded polystyrene or “EPS”) molded or arranged in shapes creating forms into which concrete is poured and cures. ICFs are designed for concrete construction, especially foundations, but they are not limited to subsurface walls like basements. They can be used for walls several stories high. Unlike regular concrete forms which are typically wood or metal and are removed after the concrete has dried, ICFs are left in place after the concrete cures, thereby providing rigid foam insulation on both sides of the concrete.
