Ventilated Façade Products
Ventilated façade products deliberately include a gap of typically 3/8" to 3/4" or more between the inside of the outermost surface of an exterior wall and the structural wall or exterior insulation under it. This designed-in gap under the façade allows any moisture in the insulation or structural components of an exterior wall to escape by allowing air to pass behind the façade and transport moisture away. Ventilated façade products function as a "rain screen" as well. Rain that blows behind or flows behind the façade is not held there by the capillary effect of two close surfaces and can escape by both gravity and air movement. This protects insulation and structural components vulnerable to water damage. This protection is important in even conventional construction, but it is essential to super-insulated walls.
